Not your average Tuesday

Yesterday was awesome! Rainy per usual but otherwise great. I had my first day at the zoo! I somehow managed to get on the correct bus and get off at the correct stop. I got there and filled out some paperwork and then was off to the reptile house with one of the keepers, Kristy. I started off with the usual stuff, cleaning the glass, sweeping etc. Then we did feeding. Some nice cut up baby mice, lovely I know. We fed some frogs, turtles, some lizards, it was good. After that we had a short 'morning tea' break, where I sat with the kangaroos. Then I got to carry around a black headed python for a bit! Then we headed to the rat room. They're not for display, just for the snakes' dinner. We cleaned out all the cages which took a while, separated some rats from others, took some away to get 'knocked on the head', (I don't think I could do that job). The baby mice were so cute! Then we went to lunch. I get a free meal from the cafe! After that I cut up some fruit and veggies for the rats. Then I had to take out all the juvenile murtens' water monitors, a small lizard, from their enclosure so I could clean it, 16 in total. Very squirmy! After that we did maintenance stuff, cleaning mud out of the drains, cutting plants that were in the way, wheelbarrowing them around etc etc. By the end of the day it looked like I had been rolling around in the mud. I left at 3:30 to go home. I got off at the wrong stop so I did more walking than necessary, but it could have been worse. I didn't bring my camera but I will next week.

That night I went out to dinner at the Hog's Breath Cafe for my friend Maggie's birthday. It is an American restaurant that has to come to Australia I think. They had all American memorabilia and license plates from every state. I couldn't find Rhode Island though! It was so good to have bbq prime rib and a baked potato!!! We stayed in the city for a bit before heading home. A much better Tuesday than normal.

Today I had class all day. But OMG it was sunny for the first time in two weeks! It was amazing to actually see blue sky. Right after class I headed straight to the pool! It was so nice. Tonight I'm headed to zumba but that's about it!
